The Backflow Repairer course includes classroom instruction and hands-on training that utilizes a backflow prevention assembly wet lab where students will disassemble a double check assembly, reduced pressure principle assembly, pressure vacuum breaker, and spill resistant pressure vacuum breaker. The Facility Management course is taught by experienced water industry professionals, and meet the core subject area requirements of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Operator Knowledge Base Manual, providing the training required by rule for the Florida water and wastewater treatment plant operator level A examinations. Individuals who have successfully completed the FW&PCOA’s Level 3, 2, or 1 Water Distribution System Operator course can enroll in the corresponding shortened Reclaimed Water Distribution Level 3, 2, and 1 courses, respectively.

The FW&PCOA’s voluntary certification program for reclaimed water system operators closely follows the subject content for water distribution system operator courses. Students receive additional instruction in Rule 62-610, Florida Administrative Code, regarding the reuse of reclaimed water and land application. The association grants certification step-wise, starting at the 3 level and progressing to the 1 level. Each course is 30 hours in length and includes the course manual.(DW/DS/WW02014138, 3.0 CEU)

The 2 course provides an advanced, in-depth examination of stormwater systems, and includes stormwater management, site inspections, proper handling and disposal of wastes, record keeping, public relations, maintenance methods, and cross-connection and backflow prevention. The 3 course examines the basic concepts of a stormwater system, including system components, maintenance procedures and equipment, system construction, safety program, stormwater monitoring and sampling, use and care of pumps, and interpreting blue-line and as-built drawings. The 1 course, examines supervisory concepts, including supervisor functions, leadership styles, conflict resolution, decision making, and motivation. The Level 2 course covers pumping & hydraulics, electrical systems, principles of lubrication, crane & hoist safety, math and confined space. Manuals are included in this 32-hour course. (DS/DW/WW02014170, 3.0 CEU)

The 2 course provides an advanced, in-depth examination of wastewater collection systems, and includes administration and organization, safety/survival programs, inflow and infiltration, and sewer rehabilitation. Manuals are included in this 32-hour course. (WW02014033, 3.0 CEU)

The 3 course examines the basic concepts of a wastewater collection system, including wastewater system inspecting and testing, safe procedures, lift station and equipment maintenance, pipeline cleaning and maintenance, pipeline repair and rehabilitation, and wastewater math. The Wastewater Optimization course is a 28-hour course that emphasizes methodology to optimize the wastewater treatment process. The course topics include SCADA and instrumentation optimization, activated sludge process optimization, reclaimed water applications, disinfection, rules & regulations, process math, and biosolids handling. The Level 1 course, the most advanced course for water distribution system operators, examines supervisory concepts, including supervisor functions, leadership styles, conflict resolution, decision making, and motivation. This 32-hour course includes the manual and also provides a technical review of the concepts introduced in the Level 3 and 2 courses, to best prepare the student to pass the Florida Level 1 exam. The Level 2 course provides an advanced, in-depth examination of the water distribution system concepts, introduces the student to system administration and organization, and reviews the sections of the Florida Administrative Code that pertain to system monitoring, construction, operation and maintenance, and the actions required for out of compliance systems. The Level 3 course, the entry level, examines the basic concepts of a water distribution system, including storage, system components, water quality, disinfection, operation and maintenance, safety, and water math. Manuals are included in this 32-hour course. (DW/DS02014038, 3.0 CEU’s)
